半导体光放大器（SOA）本质上是一个激光二极管（LD），其输入和输出端口没有反馈，因此也被称为行波放大器（TWA）。 半导体光放大器（SOA）已被证明是多用途和多功能设备，是光网络的关键构件。半导体光放大器（SOA）的表征有五个参数：（1）增益（Gs）; （2）增益带宽; （3）饱和输出功率（PSAT）; （4）噪声系数（NF）；（5）偏振相关增益（PDG）。
